Visit to Chapel of St George, Windsor Castle

The Arts Society Windsor (Evening) has arranged a truly unique visit to the College of St George within Windsor Castle for Monday 30th September 2019.

You may know that the 13th and 14th century misericords within St Georges are some of our priceless unseen treasures carved by humble carvers who loved the church and their God. Your visit will start with sung Evensong at 5:15pm  in the beautiful and historic St George’s Chapel, following which members of the public attending evensong will depart and we shall remain.  We are extremely lucky and honoured that our Chapter Clerk Miss Charlotte Manley, CVO OBE has agreed to tell us about the misericords.

After the lecture you will be invited to inspect the misericords for about half an hour, to be followed by a visit to the home of Canon Dr Mark Powell for drinks and canapes.

Visit to Kew Gardens and Kew Palace April 12 2018

The world renowned gardens at Kew are a delightful and interesting source of pleasure to gardeners and non-gardeners alike.  At this time of year we shall see swathes of Spring flowers  (there are 16,000 daffodils), as well as the Treetop Walkway, The Palm House, The Princess of Wales’ Conservatory (full of orchids), the Marian North Gallery – a fascinating collection of one woman’s botanical art, some 832 paintings of landscapes, animals and birds from around the world, and the Sackler crossing of the lake, which gives remarkable views from close to the water.

In the afternoon we shall visit the historic, and remarkably well-restored and furbished Kew Palace, home to King George III and his family for much of his life.  As palaces go, it is a cosy family-sized accommodation, full of interest.
